TN-1 (NAFTA Trade Visa)

Under NAFTA, if you are a citizen of Canada or Mexico you can obtain a TN-1 work visa from any entry port in the US. You will need to have an offer of employment from a US Hospital or a staffing agency.

You will also need to have a current nursing license to work in the US. All fees paid in the licensing and testing process shall be refunded by GNO upon passing the NCLEX. You will need to contact the state in which you want to license.

In certain states, it is permitted to work on your Canadian license by reciprocity.

The TN-1 visa is good for a period of one year. You can renew your visa every year as long as you are employed as a nurse in the US.

On your port of entry, you shall be issued a form (I-94), which classifies you as TN. You can then present this form to any US Social Security Office for a Social Security number (card).
